LSAMP students who are selected to conduct research in a national or international program, present research at a conference, or compete in an academic STEM competition are eligible to apply for funding to help cover cost towards travel and accommodation. Funding typically ranges between $500-$1,500 (depending on event/program location). Applications for travel funding must be endorsed by your research faculty mentor.
Eligibility
- Student must be an LSAMP Scholar
- Student must be accepted to a research program, present research at a conference, or compete in a STEM competition
Please note: students who are not presenting research or competing in a STEM competition are not eligible to apply.
Required Documents
- Official acceptance letter into the conference, research program, or academic competition you intend to present at or participate in
- Submit in a single PDF document a signed budget sheet (PDF) and all additional materials to support your budget request (e.g., receipts, itineraries, etc.)
- Specific Essay Questions (answer in 500 words or less):
- Conference Funding: How does this conference relate and/or encourage future prospects in STEM? What value do you see in presenting your work at this conference?
- Research Programs (National or International): What do you hope to gain from this research experience? Why is conducting research abroad important to you? How will this experience further your goal towards a career or graduate education?
- Academic Competitions: What skills do you hope to gain from this experience?

Responsibilities After A Funded Opportunity
LSAMP Scholars are required to:
- Provide scanned receipts and other pertinent documents for purchases
- Submit a 500-word reflection and/or research documents related to the funded experience
Scholars may be asked to:
- Serve as an LSAMP Student Ambassador at university or community events
- Conduct workshops or act as a mentor to students interested in STEM
- Give a presentation at the next scheduled LSAMP workshop
